Precious Gemstones
Diamonds
For diamonds, use a soft-bristled non-metallic brush and a mild ammonia and water solution. Gently scrub away any grime, especially around the prongs or setting where buildup is likely. Even a clean looking diamond often has a thin layer of skin oil and will shine better after a cleaning. Avoid touching the diamond as much as possible.
Semi-Precious Gemstones
For these types of stones it varies what is best for cleaning as many will be damaged with the use of any chemical types of cleaners or baths. The Desert Bee recommends that customers use a gentle dishwashing soap well diluted with water to clean the stones after wearing to remove body oils, lotions, perfumes, and other personal care spray products. Ensure you rinse the stones after cleaning and allow them to thoroughly air-dry before returning to storage.
Shells, Corals, and other Natural Components
For shells, corals, animal bone and other natural components it is best to use the same method as described above for semiprecious gemstones.
